Iron Man Viral

ComiCon this year began the online viral campaigns of some of the big tent pole movies we expect in 2010.

This included Iron Man 2.

I visited the Stark Industries website and filled out their online job application. I did this because I’m a mega fan and feel condfident that good ol’ shell-head will never spam me. I have no idea what I signed up for but I got this email today:

“Hey there!

Thank you so much for being one of the first people to apply for a job at Stark Industries. So far, the response has been incredible. You are among the best and brightest and your interest in joining our ranks is truly appreciated.

Already we have an overwhelming number of applicants and we plan to take our time thoroughly investigating each one. It may be a long process, but it is the only way to ensure that we find the absolute best candidates to work at Stark Industries.

We will contact you soon as we narrow down our selection.

All the best,
Kay Baker”

As soon as I find out what this means I’ll let you know.

If I actually get a job at a fictional company that’d be cool.

If I actually get to do something cool that’s related to the movie I might pass out!

See you tomorrow!

Habits

Habits, sometimes it’s good to get into them. Like a writing habit, I’m enjoying the challenge that goes along with writing a blog everyday – even when it’s incredibly inconvenient and I occasionally fail at it. Then there’s the habit of saving money, which is a habit I only tend to get into when I’m running out of it.

Then there are those habits that are bad like nail biting, finger sniffing and nose picking. Eww.

Habits have been coming up an awful lot in my Adult acting class lately. We have quite a few new students and it’s a little like starting over as far as some of the acting basics. One of the first things that I do with them is break their bad acting habits: venting, picking, lack of focus and so on and so forth. This is usually a whole class (sometimes more than one) worth of mirror and body work and the results are completely worth it.

The funny thing about making other people confront their habits is that you start to see your own as well. After years of acting training I’ve become neurotically self aware, but just because you know you do something doesn’t mean that you know you do it ALL THE TIME! I try very hard to make sure that I’m doing the same work that my students do and when I started to notice what my habits are… It’s scary! Even though it was uncomfortable I ended up really glad to know, and thereby eliminate, a few of those habits. This really illustrated to me the need to really take a look at yourself every once in a while, both literally and figuratively. We’re always working on ourselves, sometimes we don’t even realize it. I doubt that any one of us is the same person we were even just a year ago. It’s neat to see that progress. Now I feel like I’m getting all “self-helpy” and rambling so I’m going to quit while I’m, perceivable, ahead.

The picture at the top has nothing to do with anything, one of my habits is nonsequitors.

See you tomorrow!

Remembering when income was disposable…

I missed the morning, slept right through it, but when I did wake up and ate a wonderful breakfast made by the lovely Miss Rene I flipped through the weekly Best Buy catalogue and marveled at their amazingly low prices. They really were pretty good. And I drooled a bit because I wanted some new fun electronic toys – and if I had the money I would probably be getting some of them right now – but then reality hit and I realized that I do not have the money and probably wont for a while.

I have noticed that the phrase “disposable income”, once a staple of financial television programs, has become noticeably absent. I’m pretty sure that there are very few people left with it. I know my friends and I certainly aren’t carrying any, although we have plans for it when it comes back. It’s probably why Best Buy and every other major retailer is offering such great deals right now, at least somebody will buy something!

To me there are bigger problems to the financial crunch besides just a lack of funds, but it’s what goes along with a lack of funds. I don’t know about you but when I’m struggling there’s only one thing that I’m ever actually doing – looking for a way to make a buck. It consumes all of my time. I have bills that need to be paid and, unfortunately, they don’t pay themselves. This puts a major cramp on the creative side of my life. There are ideas, business plans and all sorts of other endeavors that, right now, take a back burner as I just try to maintain my regular life. Hell even the creative outlets I have with Cheerleaders Must Die!, the western Rene and I are attached to and other projects are all stuck in a funding void. We even had funding once and then it fell out – that REALLY sucked. I used to think that my occupation was to being creative but if there’s anything that I’ve learned in the last two years it’s that I’m really in the world of finance and every once in a while I get to tell a story.

Still it’s better than digging a ditch.

Now go click on a couple of the ads on this page and help a brother out!

See you tomorrow!
