Google+

Just the other day I did a blog post about my online presence. I included just about everything that I’m on social network wise with only a few exceptions, one being Google+. Recent news, including this article, now shows that G+ is the number two social network. They’ve added some new functionality, including business pages, and so I thought it might be a good idea to post this.

I’m not sure that I know how to use G+, though. I’ve got circles and I’ve got people in those circles. You may even see these blog posts on G+, but G+ doesn’t work the same as the networks I utilize more often, namely Twitter and Facebook.

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a cheat. I like to post from one source and have it push to all the different networks. That way when I tweet not only is Twitter updated, but so is Facebook, my fan page, and any relevant project page. G+ doesn’t work that way. Now I’m willing to be educated on this, but the only thing I know of as far as push to other networks is adding AgentG to a circle and then adding that circle to any message. It’s not as fast as Tweet and send.

So, I’m asking you, gentle readers, please educate me. Is there a way to use Google+ better? If so, can you give me some advice? The comments are your canvas!

See you next time!

Warhorse – The Play

Rene and I saw Warhorse and it was amazing. The puppetry and spectacle were awe inspiring and there was even a tank!

We took the time to have dinner before hand at Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge where I had my first dirty martini (with blue cheese stuffed olives).

The food was so good! We made faces like this:

And this was us before we left for the show.

After the show we looked at the exhibits around the lobby. Many of them were winding down because the show was over, but we did get a chance to take a picture of the diagram for the horse puppet. It was really neat to see the mechanics of the horse.

Now I’m not one to review things in-depth  but I will say that I have never felt so much for an inanimate object. The puppeteers were masters of making the horse work and I was far more moved by the horse than by the humans – as I suppose I should have been. The show is called Warhorse not Warhuman, after all. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to the goose. It was a funny goose.
It is in it’s last week at the Sergerstrom Cemnter for The Arts, so if you have the time I suggest seeing it. Living Social or Groupon may still be offering ticket deals – but I don’t have links for them.
See you next time!

Ramble, Ramble & Online Presence

I didn’t have anything worth writing about today, at least nothing that I can talk about. I spent a lot of my day fighting with Adobe Premiere. How the hell do you export a hi-res MP4?!?!?!?? This shouldn’t be hard!

Anyway, I thought I would add another GIF to the growing list of “Curtis-Adds-A-GIF-Because-He-Didn’t-Write-Enough”  but I couldn’t even find one of those that I liked. So for Monday night I’m just listing places that you can find me online, in case you want to look that stuff up.

And if you want to keep up with the company and movie stuff, here’s that too:

Ray on Funny or Die!

Some of you may recognize my father-in-law, Ray, from some of the Wiggy Webs experiments we did a year or so ago. Well, it managed to land him a gig on a video now featured on FunnyorDie! Follow the link above to see it at the site and rate it, or just watch it here:

More Actor Advice – This Time From Stephen Tobolowsky

Rene and I had the pleasure of meeting Stephen Tobolowsky once at a meet-up for /Film and The Tobolowsky Files, the latter of which is his own storytelling podcast that is, in my opinion, some of the best audio you are likely to find. Heartfelt honest stories about his life and career that can bring you to tears as quickly as they can have you rolling with laughter. Follow the links to experience it – although the audio may not be up for long. He is starting to be syndicated on the radio and so they may have to take down many of the recordings.

In addition to being an actor, author and podcaster; Mr. Tobolowsky is also a an acting teacher and has written this article that I found at BackStageWest.com. In it he talks about how to build a character and, since I’m not too proud to steal a link, I thought you might like to read it too.’

Oh $#!+ Squirrel!

I have thought of a few different captions for this fun gif:

Oh shit Squirrel photo ohshitsquirrel_zps7ca75c15.gif
Wait, did I leave the oven on…?
I wonder why the kids aren’t back from soccer yet…?
“Carl, there’s cake in the break room!”
I really like this GIF and I’d like to hear your captions. Add them in the comments!

This Is Cool

My friend, Dean, is a pretty neat guy. He’s a graphic designer by trade, but is also a bit of a philosopher, perpetual student of the world and a man willing to experiment on himself. For nearly a decade he has done different year long challenges to test/better himself. Last year he did one creative thing a month. Everything from building furniture to shooting video to shadow puppetry. It’s admirable to see him perform these activities. I highly encourage you follow the links above and check it out.

Yesterday I received a thank you note from Dean for commenting on his blog of the event. It’s silk screened art on some of the paper he made at home. That’s the picture on top.

Have you ever challenged yourself? Maybe not for a whole year, or is that how you treat New Years resolutions? Tell me about it in the comments.

Documentary: Progress

I wasn’t going to write about this yet. I have a marketing plan that still needs to be approved by the financier, but I just want to tell people and this is a nice place to do it. Editing on the documentary is going REALLY well and it’s coming together better than expected. I watched the latest cut with Zeke last night and my compliments to him as the piece is engaging and informative. We’ve seen this footage a lot, so to be able to watch and re-watch and still be engaged by it is a good sign. Th picture above is his editing board, where he uses 3×5 cards with scene descriptions to help lay out the plan.

I’m really excited for the film’s release. When it’s finished and ready I’m gonna’ bug the hell out of all of you to watch it.

See you next time!

Blatant Plug – Not For Me, For A Friend

This is Jeff. Can you tell from the picture that he’s a vegan?

One of my oldest and closest friends in the whole world is Jeff Garvin. We have known each other longer than most of my students have been alive and have been through enough together that we can be considered family. He was an actor, toured in a rock band and now he’s an author. He’s started a new blog and he is trying some neat things with it to cover the many aspects of his life. He just did these two about creativity that I enjoyed, especially since I’m trying to get more done creatively so check them out: 6 Steps To Creative Fulfillment and Incantation For Writing.

You can subscribe to his blog and check out his Facebook Fan Page.

He has strong opinions and convictions and you might not always agree with him, but he’s a good writer and he stands behind and defends his arguments well. I hope you enjoy it.
