The Most Important Part of Sundance 2011 – The Sundance Beard

I’m growing a beard, but not just any beard A SUNDANCE BEARD!

Why a beard for Sundance?  It’s a bit of a story, see I grow facial hair like a sixteen year old girl.  Fer reel!  I’ve tried on a few different occasions to see what I’d look like with some kind of mustache or beard, lots of guys do, and every time it has ended in failure.  Sure the hair grows, but not in a full, lush way like on Burt Reynolds instead it looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo.  My Dad has a full beard and has had one since his early twenties so I manage to trick myself into thinking that eventually I’ll be able to grow one too, but with every attempt no dice.

Then came November 2010.  I had not shaved for a week and had a bit of fuzz on my face.  As I was getting ready to shave I thought, “Sundance is coming up and my face freezes every year.  Other guys have beards, I bet that helps.”  The light bulb dinged.  I decided then that it was time to attempt to grow a Sundance beard!  I forgot to mark the day that I stopped shaving, since I stopped before I made the decision, but I’m pretty sure it’s been about five weeks.  I look like this as of today:

There’s some trimming that I should do and it could stand to grow in a bit more, but I’ve got about three more weeks before the festival and my hopes are high that I’ll have a manly beard in time for the snow.

Of course if I have an audition between now and then it has to go – but I’m pushing for a Sundance debut!

The beard might live Tweet from the festival.  No promises, but maybe.

See you tomorrow!

Blog Writing When I Should Be Searching & Star Wars

I have a headache, I’ve lost a log book and I can’t find a printout that I need to read.
Instead of doing anything about those things I’m writing a blog, not because I’m particularly inspired but because I can’t think of another place to look for these things.  We had a bit of a leak in the office and in the rush to place tarps to keep everything dry I remember seeing the log book and the print out.  I moved them to keep them safe and I forgot where I put them.  I’ve been looking most of the afternoon and I’m at a point of frustration where I’m too tired to tear the house apart and I’m hoping that they will just magically appear.

So far they haven’t.

It is possible that I threw out the print out.  I can live with that, but I want to know what happened to the log book!

Well this is a boring rant kind of a blog so here’s a link to an article about going a year without Star Wars that I think is great and important for creatives of my generation to read: A Year Without Star Wars

See you tomorrow!

It Is December 28th – This Is Not A Top Ten List!

It’s the end of the year and after a long rest over the last two days I’m starting to feel recharged and ready to attack the new year!  I am shamed to say that I tried getting started yesterday on stuff, but after Rene’s head shot shoot and a few phone calls I was completely exhausted (the remains of my cold may have contributed as well but I hate to admit when I’m sick.)

This morning I woke up ready to attack the world and I looked like this:

OK, that picture is mildly posed, but I think you catch my drift.

In other news, working on the documentary has led me to watch some strange reality T.V. – some as research and some just because I didn’t change the channel fast enough.  Right now I’m watching “Hoarders: Buried Alive” on TLC.  I’m completely fascinated.  These stories don’t seem like they could be real, but they are and it’s shocking to see how out of control things can get.

I’m going to go now, things to do.

See you tomorrow!

Christmas Eve… Oh, wait it’s already Christmas!

I’m sitting in our living room watching The History Channel learning about the gospel of Judas.  I’ve already seen most of it, but I’m not tired and can’t sleep.  I wish I could say that I was all jazzed for Christmas morning and that was why I can’t sleep but I feel like I’m too old for that and really my mind is just full of mud, and I feel inspired to write.

I bought myself a Moleskine journal, the same kind that I got my groomsmen.  They’re supposed to be the same kind of journal that Hemingway used and I like Hemingway and I wanted a fun new book so I got one.  When I was a teenager I used to keep journals all the time.  When I look back at them they are basically diaries with all the embarrassing emotional ramblings that you’d expect to see coming out of a upper-middle class teen, but I never thought of them as diaries I always called them “blank books” and usually  bought new ones when I found one with what I thought was a cool cover.  The first one was bound in burlap and is still my favorite.

This Moleskine journal is pretty neat.  It’s small, pocket sized, and comes with an elastic strap to hold the book closed.  There’s a ribbon book mark to hold your place and an expanding pocket in the back to hold things that are just a bit bigger than a business card.  The inner cover has a spot to write your address so that it can be returned if lost and, in a wonderfully pretentious turn, a line that says, “Reward if returned: $______”.  I don’t think I’m going to fill in that last line.  All the pomp and circumstance makes it feel like whatever I write in there should be important like notes for a travel journal or government secrets and so I find myself dying to jot in it but not sure what it should be.  Whatever it is I’m confident that I’ll avoid the emotional ramblings of a thirty-something.

Next week starts the editing process for the new sets pf shows that will be featured on Wiggy Webs.  I’ll be posting on the Wiggy Blog and Twitter as those new shows go up – I’m very excited!!

I’m yawning now so I’m going to go to sleep.

Merry Christmas to all!

See you tomorrow!

Mobile Blog: I Am Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

I have a zit on the tip of my nose.

It sits on the bottom under the tip and it looks like the kind of zit that you get in the throws of puberty.

I'm not a fan.

I'm also incredibly distracted by it. There's so much more that I should be writing about, that I would like to write about, that I've ignored in favor of other things that I made a priority so it's strange that the topic that makes me come back to the world of blogging is something as mundane as a zit.

I guess it also helps that I have a small amount of time to kill and nothing else that I can accomplish in it. I really should get more diligent about creating writing time. I've been feeling really creative lately but haven't taken the time to utilize it in the more productive ways and so I guess I'm putting that out there publicly so that I feel more compelled to make a change.

Gotta run to a meeting.

See you tomorrow!
