Sounds like a case of the Mondays.

Rene and I had a really great, packed, weekend. We went to a birthday party in L.A. (Happy Birthday Nicholle!), semi-crashed another birthday with karaoke (Happy Birthday Francis!), I was an editing FIEND on Friday, Saturday saw Sebastian and I fight hard at Improv Shmimprov March Madness (congrats Drew & Sean – gonna’ get ya’ next year!), and then I had the last performance of Lebensraum on Sunday. Really great, successful events. So great I will probably write blogs about them later. Unfortunately today showed up.

I know it’s cliche to complain about Mondays so I’ll carry the idea of cliche to it’s full potential and quote the Boomtown Rats when I say, “I don’t like Mondays. I want to shoo – hoo – hoo – hoot the whole day down.

It wasn’t a terrible day like I got really bad news or someone died or I lost a limb, it was just the vibe of the whole day. If a day can be born bad then today was Rosemary’s Baby. Everything just had a taint to it, even when it tried to be good. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. It seems like everyone I talked to today (before I stopped trying and gave up on the day) was also experiencing it. OK I can’t say everyone felt it, there were a flurry of phone calls that came pouring in between 5pm and 6pm and most of them sounded fine although those conversations were brief, but still, the feeling was there.

Thus thusly today ended up being quite uneventful and unproductive. I hate unproductive. I literally cannot afford unproductive right now. Tomorrow is shaping up. I’m visiting with my agents, having a budget meeting with our line producer and production coordinator (although depending on how the money is being spent…), and catching up on what should have happened today.

I’m not going to dwell on that any more.

I watched a whole episode of Castle tonight. I really like that show. It’s no BSG, but that Nathan Fillion is a lot of fun to watch.

OK, I’ve droned long enough.

See you tomorrow!

Grrr.

I'm writing this blog from my phone because my computer is running REALLY slow. I've already run a virus scan, nothing showed, and I'm running an Adware killer right now.

I'll try and post something later since it was a very full, very fun weekend and there are more comics to review and things to just blabber on about.

So, until next time!

Priorities and Dog Pee

I woke up with high hopes of editing today. I had every intention of getting up, hosing off and going over to my friend’s house to finish the editing of my March Madness video so that it is ready for Saturday’s show – which you should all come to.

So I got up and turned on my computer. That was the moment that I killed any hope of editing today. When the computer booted up I was greeted, literally, by a series of very positive emails regarding my film projects, but totally unrelated to editing. Good emails about money, locations and even a voice mail about a new writing gig.

It was hard to be upset about this stuff taking up my time, in fact I wasn’t, nor am I now, upset about it at all.

However, one thing that was neither in the plan or a pleasant surprise was a puddle of dog pee that I found on the floor. I was watching my parent’s new dog, Pete, and he is a good dog. A very good dog. He’s friendly, quiet, and lovable – but he’s also a puppy and he isn’t house broken. I really only have myself to blame. I was on the phone to my mom letting her know that he was eating when all of a sudden I hear the “click click click” of his paws on the tile. I turned around just as his little leg lifted and, as if in slow motion, screamed, “NOOOOOOOO!”

To his credit he did stop and then went outside, but his little body can really hold a LOT of pee!

I have work to do so I’m going to go, but I’ll talk to you soon!

I Can Say A Little…

I know I’ve been cryptic about the projects I’ve been working on. I know some of you saw my Facebook/Twitter update yesterday and it got your brains going. I didn’t mean to be so vague, but I was really excited. It would have been very irresponsible to have said anything yesterday, but after today I can say a little. Probably won’t answer all of your questions, but at least I can say a bit.

I’m making a movie. A slasher movie to be specific. Now this probably doesn’t come as a great shock to anyone seeing as how that is exactly what I’ve been trying to do for the last few years, but today was the first production meeting for the slasher I’m making with my buddy Zeke. Today we met with about half the crew and one of the leads to get everyone on the same page and start the pre-pre-production! It was really, REALLY, cool! To answer some of the questions I think you’ll have:

– No, this is not a sequal to Stupid Teenagers Must Die!
– No, I’m pretty sure I won’t be in this.
– It will probably be out next year.

We start shooting in July and when that happens, trust me, there will be frequent updates both here and at the new Wiggy VonSchtick blog.

This isn’t the only thing in the pipe. Rene’s documentary is on track as well and she and I are also working on a western. It’s shaping up to be a good year!

That’s about as much as I can say for now. Title, cast and synopsis will follow later. Right now I have to do more work on Photoshop for the March Madness show this weekend and get ready for the final performance of Lebensraum. Busy week, busy week.

Talk to you soon!

I’m Learning Japanese

I am very excited about making this week as productive as last week was. I woke up early to do some personal, and frankly frivolous, things so I have the rest of the day to conduct business. I’ve been working very hard on my time management. I think most people who really know me know that I like to get involved in things. I get very excited about them and then run myself ragged trying to find a way to fit everything in. I’m trying to re-train my brain to see things a bit differently and learn how to say no. I hate saying no. I hate limits. I much prefer the idea that a person can find a way to do it all. I still believe that, but I also have to acknowledge that it is nearly impossible to do it all and do it all well. So I’m pairing down as my current responsibilities begin to finish themselves and only taking on the projects and things that I really want to do as opposed to just anything that sounds like it might be a good idea.

One of the things that I’ve been trying to keep up with, that I did while working out this morning, is maintain my and learn more Japanese. I went to Japan several times with my ex-wife and fell in love with the country. The culture, the public transportation, how clean it all is, and the fact that people just have a whole different outlook. It seems silly, the outlook bit, but there is a different sense of responsibility and work and life. This is not to say that this outlook is better, I mean extremes exist in all cultures. I’m sure we’ve all heard about business men on all night benders, suicides and people who watch Pachinko balls all day, but I have a great deal of respect for the Japanese way of life. One of the things that I have been planning, one of my goals for the last few years, is a big trip. There are several stops planned, but I want to spend a good amount of time in Japan. While I wait I’ve been trying to keep up with my Japanese. In addition to the CD’s that I originally got back in two thousand something, my friend Sam pointed my to a podcast called JapanesePod101. To be honest I don’t actually use the site. The site costs money, as all things of value should, but I just don’t have it to spare right now so I subscribe to the podcasts via iTunes. I love these podcasts! I listen to all the levels that are available and try to push myself to understand what the instructors are talking about. Part of what inspired this blog today was that I listened to one of the all Japanese audio-blogs today and understood what they were saying! Not every word, but a lot of them. Enough to actually follow along. It was really great!

As I take a look at how I spend my time now I’m glad there are a few things that I can do at the same time. Podcasts and exercise are a pretty obvious one – as I’m sure many of you know – but also blogging while rendering and finding money while eating and a great deal more while doing other stuff. I’m looking forward to being more productive.

Oh, and I just got another political cartoon from my friend Scott that I thought I’d share too! I think it’s important to remember, no matter whom the president is, that nothing changes over night except the weather.

Today!

Today was not as productive as the rest of the week. Caught up on sleep this morning and then just didn’t quite get moving as easily as the rest of the week. I am getting a lot of computer stuff done today and catching up on paperwork, but it feels like the hours are just flying by. I’ve been listening to podcasts as I’ve been working and I think that’s adding to the feeling of time-slippage. I actually really don’t have the time to finish this blog, so I’m going to have to write another one later.

No, probably won’t be able to until tomorrow.

See you then!

Dark Avengers #3

This week I only had one book on my pull list, and that book was Dark Avengers number three.

Newbie Report: For those of you who are not keeping up with current Marvel continuity here’s what’s up. Shape shifting aliens invaded Earth and replaced major players with evil duplicates. These duplicates sowed mistrust throughout the Marvel Universe and then there was war! At the end of the war Earth won, Tony Stark (Iron Man) was blamed for the invasion, and Norman Osborne (the super-villain Green Goblin) killed the alien queen and was credited as the savior of the planet. Now Osborne has a whole military group at his disposal as well as the Avengers – which is now made up of super-villains disguised as heroes. These are the Dark Avengers.

The first two issues showed us that Osborne, who stole a suit of Iron Man armor and now calls himself Iron Patriot, is still definitely a bad guy and he is working in secret with a whole bunch of really bad guys – including Doctor Doom! Osborne and Doom struck a deal that released Doom from prison and returned him to his kingdom of Latveria. When Doom arrived home he was attacked by his ex-lover, the sorceress Morgan LeFey, who attacked him magically and, much to the surprise of me and many other readers, kicked doctor Doom’s ASS!

Because of the deal Osborne and Doom made, the Dark Avengers needed to go save him. The Dark Avengers, including Venom disguised as Spider-Man, Bullseye disguised as Hawkeye, Moonstone disguised as Ms. Marvel, Wolverine’s son Daken as Wolverine, Noh-Varr the new Captain Marvel, The Sentry and Ares God of War, got in a quin-jet and rushed to Doom’s aid.

Issue two ended with The Sentry tearing off Morgana’s head before Morgana returned, removed The Sentry from the timeline, made Venom
go nuts and eat Ares and then launch magic lightning at anything else that was standing.

Issue three was written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Mike Dedato and Rain Beredo.

BMB has done a really good job building the characters and making you care about a group of villains. It is reminiscent of what I’ve been told The Thunderbolts were like in the early days. You feel for the characters and root for them even though they really are some of the meanest bastards to ever grace a comic page. This issue really focuses on the villains being heroes, and they do a good job at it – especially since being a good hero in this case means killing lots of things! There’s an overall sense of distrust between them all, to the point that they refuse to back each other up and insult each other. The “team” is really held together by Osborne, who’s a wack job, Ares, also a wack job but at least he’s a god so it makes sense, and Captain Marvel, who is surprisingly quiet in this issue. I’m going to try to avoid spoilers in this review, but I think it’s worth mentioning that The Sentry is less of a pussy – at least after we get past page nine… and then he ceases to be a pussy – BECAUSE HE’S NOT IN THE BOOK AFTER THAT! Why does Bendis write him as a big ol’ wuss? Also, did I miss the part of Secret Invasion where he became The Void and then somehow stopped being The Void? No idea where that happened.

Anyway, this being the third part of what I’m pretty sure is going to be a six part story arc, it ends on a bit of cliffhanger, but the villain on villain action is fun to watch! The art is great at conveying the action and emotion, but I’m not a hugh fan of the style. That’s totally a personal bias. The sketchy lines and hard borders just aren’t my cup of tea, but, as I mentioned before, it does a great job of telling the story. I’m looking forward to seeing how this arc ends and to see if Ares, The Sentry and Nor-Varr stay in this bed of vipers, or if the villains start to kill each other. I’m voting for “kill each other.”

See you tomorrow!

Blood on the Sand

I like the “No Punctuation” game reviews at Escapist Magazine. I think they are really funny and often post them to my Friend Feed (although I recently discovered that I somehow managed to create a second FF account without realizing it! Stupid ease of use system!) I thought today’s review was especially poignant so I’m posting it here… and to my FF. Hopefully the right one.

Another One For Today!

I promised another blog today and dammit I’m gonna’ deliver! Had another really good day today. It’s hard to want to fall asleep because I’m getting so much done and it feels REALLY good! It’s kinda’ like when you finally work out after putting it off for a long time. You’re dreading and dreading that first run or push-up or crunch but then once you’re going and feeling it you’re like, “Yeah! This is good!” I feel like I’ve really dropped my shackles and taken off running! Although it does make me scared that if I slow down or take a break it will totally derail my momentum and progress.

Tomorrow will put that theory to the test. Rene and I will be seeing a friend of ours in a play up in LA at the Shanley Festival. After we’ll be doing a bit of what the French call Karaoke. Before hand we’ll be having dinner with her family and running to the LBC to pick-up her camera charger. I have until 3pm to get anything done that must get done. It is a test of my time management skills, which I have to admit could be better. The true test comes on Thursday when it’s time to get back to work (specifically paperwork).

I know I must be doing something I like because I’m actually looking forward to all of it. I have production binder parts strewn around my room, emails and texts coming in about writers and scripts, and phone calls that can mean millions of dollars. My computer coughs and hacks as I keep making more and more demands of it and instead of being just dead tired I’m also as excited as a kid at Christmas where there are giant boxes under the tree and they all have my name on them. That’s a pretty good feeling!

The beginning of the year is traditionally a good time for me and can really set the tone for the rest of the year. If this week is any indication of whats coming then I’m a happy camper.

Now I’m going to go make my bed and lay in it and try and calm down enough to fall asleep. Early day tomorrow!

See you then!

Mini Blog from School

I have been teaching at the acting school for over 18 months now and I am still shocked that our youth classes, which are supposed to start at age 3, have 2 years olds in them. Tonight I'm coving for another teacher and there is a new student who is only 2 years old and BARELY speaking! I'll admit she is a very bright child and as far as understanding what she's supposed to do she's actually very good, but the words are not there. I'm not even completely sure what I'm supposed to teach her besides how to stand still and look in the right direction.

I'll put up a proper post later. In the meantime I have to get back to the fray.

See you soon!
